Barbu
Available on the AppStore

A Seven-in-one card game for iPhone and iPad.

Barbu is a trick-taking game in the style of bridge or hearts. It differs from most other card games in that each hand has different rules.

A complete game consists of 28 hands. In each of a player's seven deals, he may choose one of the seven sets of rules, or contracts, available for that hand.

Contracts are: No Tricks, No Queens, No Hearts, No Last Two, No King of Hearts (Barbu), Trumps, Dominoes (or Fantan).

The objective of the game is to achieve the highest total score out of the four players.

Rules of the Game

Barbu is a trick based card game. It uses a 52-card pack, ranking from highest to lowest A K Q J 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 in each of the four suits.

The game is played by 4 players. The card deck is randomly dealt and each player receives 13 cards. The whole game is played clockwise.

Over the course of 28 hands, a player must declare each of 7 contracts (5 negative and 2 positive).

Negative contracts

In negative contracts there is no trump. The player who has played the card with the highest value and TRICK SUIT wins the trick.A player who cannot follow suit must discard a penalty card if they have any, or any other card if they do not.

The negative contracts are:

No Tricks
Each trick scores -2 points to the player taking it.
No Hearts
Ace of Hearts scores -6, each other Heart -2 points. Hearts may not be led unless they have already been discarded before, or the player on lead has nothing but hearts.
No Queens
Queens are penalty cards, -6 points for each.
No King of Hearts
The King of Hearts is the only penalty card, scoring -20 to the player taking it in a trick. Hearts may not be led unless they have already been discarded before, or the player on lead has nothing but hearts.
No Last Two
The second-to-last trick scores -10 and the last trick scores -20.

Trump contract

The declarer chooses a trump suit and leads the first card. The suit of this card names TRICK SUIT. Each player must follow the TRICK SUIT led, if he can. If not, he should play the trump, or any suit if he has no trump.

The player who has played the card with the highest value ( the trump card or the card of the suit led, if no trump was played) takes the cards on the table. That player (winner of the trick) then leads to the next trick. Continue until all tricks have been played.

Each trick won in the trump contract game gives +5 points.

Domino (or Fantan)

Domino is different from each of the other six games. It is not played as a trick-taking game, but is more similar to a Dominos game.
In Domino only, Aces rank below 2s. All other cards maintain the same order.
The first card played by the dealer is called the "Base Card". After the dealer's first play, each player thereafter, in turn, must play.
A legal play is either a Base Card (a card equal in rank to the Base Card) or a card adjacent in rank and equal in suit to the card already played. Aces and Kings are not adjacent in rank.
This has the effect of building lines of cards outward from the base cards to the Aces and Kings.
When a player's turn comes, he MUST play if possible. If a player can play more than one card, he may choose which to play, but must play one. If he cannot play, the turn passes.
The objective of the game is to play all of your cards before your opponents play theirs. The first player to be out of cards scores +45, the next +20, the third +5, the last -5.
